Here’s why ‘Broad City’ is banning Trump’s name

Broad City TCA Portraits 2017

On Tuesday, “Broad City” babies Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer talked about the upcoming season of their hilarious series at the summer TCA conference. And one thing is for sure — there will not be even a whiff of Donald Trump’s name.

No, really. It’s just going to be bleeped out, like any other expletive. “We didn’t originally write it like that,” Glazer said. “This season we did more rewriting than ever before, more creatively versus logically in the rewrite period because this election happened and the world changed.

“We got to a point where in real life we’re talking about the current administration, we’re talking about Trump and it sounds so gross, every day saying it so many times,” she continued. “We didn’t want to share airtime. … It was a different kind of joke,” she added.

Jacobson added that their characters are definitely on a journey of wokeness now, too. “Everyone is trying to be more vocal now, and informed, and we try to infuse that into the characters,” she says. “The characters are trying really hard to be ‘woke’ and be involved in this and make things better and change things, but they also try and fail at stuff. They’re imperfect.”

“Broad City,” of course, will be making its comeback on September 13 on Comedy Central at 10:30pm. And there’s tons to look forward to: This season will see your favorite gals getting new jobs, celebrating their “friendiversary,” getting a visit from Abbi’s mom, tripping on mushrooms (it’s about time), discovering their witchdom and traveling to Florida. All in 13 beautiful and perfect episodes.

Guest stars will include RuPaul, Shania Twain, Steve Buscemi, Sandra Bernhard, Mike Birbiglia, Jane Curtin, Susie Essman, Peri Gilpin, Alysia Reiner, Amy Ryan, Constance Shulman, and Wanda Sykes — which is a whole lot!

We can’t wait to see what the girls get up to this season.
