Bryce Dallas Howard talks directing Star Wars show The Mandalorian, Ron Howard set visit

It sounds like Bryce Dallas Howard is following in her famous father’s footsteps.

During the press conference for the 2019 Woman of the Year ceremony with Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals on Thursday, the “Jurassic World” star revealed that she hopes to transition to directing full-time, a trajectory that seemingly mirrors her legendary dad Ron Howard’s path through Hollywood.

“I’m directing full-time,” she told reporters. “I don’t want to quit acting, but the way it’s been for the last 12 years, I’ve directed, I would say between things, but really while I was pregnant.”

Howard later added, “My personal hope is that I’m so busy directing that I’m not able to follow through on acting in a feature.”

As for what inspired Howard to get behind the camera more, the actress explained that working on the upcoming Star Wars spinoff television series “The Mandalorian” convinced her to go full-time with directing. The show, which is being written and produced by Jon Favreau, will feature Howard in the director’s chair for an episode, while other notable names like Dave Filoni, Taika Waititi and more set to direct as well.

“Right now I’m in production on ‘The Mandalorian,’ which is the first live-action Star Wars television show ever,” Howard said. “Getting to do that has been awesome and has made me thoroughly addicted.”

Howard isn’t the first star in her family to travel to a galaxy far, far away, as her father recently directed the Han Solo origin film “Solo: Star Wars Story.” Howard revealed that her dad recently visited the set of “The Mandalorian,” although it was a bit of a stressful situation for the budding director. Apparently the “Solo” filmmaker couldn’t help but worry about his daughter and how’s she’s handling the pressure of such a high-profile project.

“It’s because he’s so deeply empathetic. He just wants everything to be amazing for me at all times.”
