Alias Grace, November 3 (Netflix)
This series is based on a Margaret Atwood novel, but don’t expect it to be anything like The Handmaid’s Tale. Sure, the story of Grace Marks — a woman in prison for a double murder she may or may not have committed — explores being a woman in a patriarchal society where there are no straight answers. But that’s where the similarities end. Grace is a shapeshifter, and her story explores the slipperiness of memory. And actress Sarah Gadon plays the part, managing, at times, to be both vulnerable and mischievous.
The Girlfriend Experience, November 5 (Starz)
In its second season, "The Girlfriend Experience" will still be mired in the world of high-class escorts. But this time, the anthology series has gotten a bit of a makeover, with two parallel stories. The first stars Pushing Daises' Anna Friel as Erica, a high-powered Republican financier type, and the complicated relationship — and power dynamics — she shares with a young escort named Anna. The second story will see Bria (Carmen Ejogo), a former escort in the witness protection program, who has escaped her old life in an attempt to ditch an abusive ex. It's both incredibly sexy and fully thrilling.
Future Man, November 14 (Hulu)
Helmed by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg — the team behind “Preacher” and “Pineapple Express” — this Hulu series will see Josh Hutchinson as a janitor by day, world-ranked gamer by night. One who is, of course, tasked with preventing the extinction of humanity. And based on the involvement of Rogen and Goldberg, plus Eliza Coupe of "Happy Endings" fame, it promises to be a hilarious whirlwind. Get ready to see some familiar tropes jazzed up in new and exciting ways.
