Everything we know right now about Man in the High Castle season 3

Man in the High Castle season 3

With the rise of the alt-right and the increasingly public presence of white nationalism, neo-Nazism and similar hate groups in modern American politics, it’s not hard to imagine a reality in which The Man in the High Castle isn’t just a fictional television show. For now, at least, the hit Amazon series remains just a work of fiction. Here’s everything you need to know about The Man in the High Castle season 3.

Man in the High Castle season 3 plot

Philip K. Dick’s alternative history of the United States post-World War II, which was published in 1962, imagined a world in which the Allies had lost the war. As a result, Nazi Germany and the Japanese Empire divided the spoils of their global war, including the United States. The book focuses on a popular (and banned) book that depicts Germany and Japan’s loss, whereas Amazon’s adaptation sees everyone secretly passing around film reels depicting such a thing.

Stephen Root plays Hawthorne Abendsen, the same man who bears the show’s mysterious name. The how and why of the film reels he collects is never fully explained, but they nonetheless attract all kinds of attention from the Nazis, the Japanese and the resistance posed against both. That’s where Juliana Crain (Alexa Davalos), a San Francisco resident seemingly happy with her life, comes in. Once she comes across Abendsen’s films, everything changes.

Across the first two seasons, Juliana and her boyfriend Frank Frink (Rupert Evans), a worker and artist of Jewish descent, find themselves thrust into the resistance’s many battles with both oppressors. Meanwhile, the Nazi commander John Smith (Rufus Sewell), SS agent Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank), and the Japanese secret police leader Takeshi Kido (Joel de la Fuente) pursue them and others without remorse.

Season two ends with the death of Hitler (Wolf Muser) and a near-declaration of war between the Germans and the Japanese. It also ends with the suggestion that the alternative universe, of universes, indicated by Abendsen’s films are in fact very real places, and as the first trailer for Man in the High Castle season 3 indicates, the Nazis have every intention of accessing these realms and conquering them as well.

Whether or not the Nazi scientists succeed in their multi-dimensional experiments, Juliana escapes her asylum claim in New York and the resistance prevails against both sides remains to be seen. Audiences will have to tune to find out more when The Man in the High Castle season 3 finally drop on Amazon Prime.

Even so, no matter what answers the show manages to provide or withhold, viewers should know that a fourth season is already on the way. And while the series thus far as far outpaced the original confines of Dick’s Hugo Award-winning work of alternative history and speculative fiction, it’s safe to say that The Man in the High Castle still finds itself squarely within the realm of his many imagined possibilities.
