Oscar Nunez The Office reboot

Philly fans of The Office are in for a treat this weekend, as stars Angela Kinsey, Brian Baumgartner, Creed Bratton, Leslie David Baker and Oscar Nunez are all set to appear at Keystone Comic Con. Ahead of the event, we caught up with Nunez to chat about the mini-Dunder Mifflin reunion, his thoughts on The Office reboot rumors and why Donald Trump is like a bizarro Michael Scott.

How excited are you to see everyone at Keystone Comic Con?

It’s pretty cool, I have to say. I think Brian is shooting a movie. So far I will be there, my schedule is clear. Angela is going to be there. I think Creed’s going to be there and Leslie David Baker. I think the last time I was in Philly, I was in the eighth grade and we took a field trip to the zoo – Philadelphia has one of the best zoos in the country – and back at that time, I was able to touch the Liberty Bell. That was a long time ago, it was the ‘70s. It was very cool. I have been to Scranton [though]. This will be fun.

Have you stayed in touch with your old cast members over the years?

Angela I see. Creed I see. Creed and I get together and we go get sushi. That’s our thing. So we’ll see each other in a couple of weeks and we’ll get together and go out get some sushi. Leslie David Baker I have not seen for a while. But Angela and Creed I do see. Brian has moved to San Diego, but Brian, Angela and I had a dinner date a couple of months ago.

Speaking of getting the band back together, do you have any insight into The Office reboot rumors that have been floating around?

I think the only way it will happen is if it’s a Christmas special or a some one-off thing. I don’t think it could be a series. The only way I could see it happen is something like that. And even that is probably not going to happen, but that would be the only way I could say anything like that happening. Sorry to say.

If The Office reboot did happen, what do you think Oscar Martinez is up to these days?

If they do something like that, a reunion or whatever, I think he would be in the Senate, because the last we heard of him he was running for office or something. Maybe he’s in the Senate and he comes by, and Dwight and Angela’s kid would be a little bigger and Dwight’s running his farm, something like that. Maybe Angela is a stay at home mom, I don’t know. Jim and Pam would be coming in from Texas or some other city because Jim hit it big with that sports thing he was getting into. Maybe Kevin owns a bar. I think very few people would still be at the place. It’s funny to see maybe Meredith is still there or maybe she’s the office manager.

When it comes to politics in real life, you’re very active on Twitter and aren’t afraid to speak out on issues.

I was off Twitter for the longest time because it makes me crazy. I don’t know how to do Twitter and be light. I dive right into the deepest, craziest political stuff because it’s important to me. I’m here because of politics, because a despot took over my island and we had to leave for political reasons, I’m speaking of Cuba. It’s a big deal and these coming elections are going to be a big, big deal.

Do you think President Trump acts a bit like a bizarro version of Michael Scott?

Yeah. Michael had no agenda though. He was just himself in just a small office. This is beyond anything. We are in bizarro world. It’s really strange the stuff that keeps happening. Everything is unprecedented that he does. Another word for unprecedented is just f’d up. Marc Maron said that. So yeah, it’s really bananas.
