When is the Preacher season 2 finale?

Dominic Cooper as Preacher

Before Preacher was actually brought to the small-screen, the comic-book upon which it was based was repeatedly called “un-filmable.” So the fact that Sam Catlin, Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen were able to both bring the series to life and give it enough substance and foundation for it to last at least two seasons, probably more, highlights how impressive Preacher has been.

Monday August 28 will mark the 11th episode of Preacher season 2, which is already on the cusp of coming to an end. But when is the Preacher season 2 finale going to air on AMC?

Preacher season 2 finale: Mark your calendars

Preacher’s final episode of its second season will be shown on Monday, September 11 at 9pm EST. Unfortunately for fans of the show, there still hasn’t been any indication from AMC about whether a third season will actually be greenlit.

Critically, Preacher has actually made an improvement in its second season. Its debut batch of episodes gathered an undeniably impressive score of 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, as critics instantly took a shine to Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) and Tulip O’Hare (Ruth Negga). Preacher season 2’s critical response increased by a rather impressive 5%, but that was based off just 17 reviews rather than the 62 that reviewed the first.

This decrease in interest has actually been reflected in the show’s ratings. Preacher season 2 has suffered a drop of around 1 million viewers per episode, but the fact it pulls in high numbers in the key demographic of 18-49 year olds means it should be given a third. Especially since its cast confirmed to TVLine last month that the Preacher season 2 finale includes “something so dramatically important” it actually “reveals the whole reason behind everything.”

Make sure you watch Preacher’s remaining three episodes to see exactly what that is, starting with Backdoors on August 28.
