“The Walking Dead” is coming back, and sooner than you think.

The eighth season of AMC’s epic zombie venture will return on October 22. At the end of last season, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and his ragtag band of survivors prepared to go to war with over the top villain Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), proving once again, that in a post apocalyptic situation, it’s not the undead that cause the most trouble.

Production was temporarily halted on the show’s Georgia set last week after a stuntman was fatally injured.

According to TVLine, fans can expect at least two new characters added to the cast. Dillon, a “sexy blue-collar twentysomething whose survival skills include sarcasm,” and Abbud, “an innately liable Muslim American whose nerves are, let’s say, jangled, because he’s flown solo for too long in zombieland.”

Also worth noting? Showrunner Scott M. Gimple told Entertainment Weekly in May that the eighth season will fix one of the show’s biggest storytelling problems.

By virtue of the fact that the narrative has turned into one of pretty intense conflict,” he said, “it’s going to affect the structure in ways that make it a bit more kinetic, a bit more breakneck — shifting away from entire stories in one episode, and sort of fractured over several episodes, with little pieces of each story coming together.” Gimple continued, “So, yeah, things are going to move, and possibly not have the kind of deep dives into characters in single episodes, but rather laying out the pieces as we go on.”

We’d say there’s plenty to look forward to.
