The Word: Viola Davis almost ambush-kissed Harrison Ford

I often watch movies and TV shows and think “Hmm, they look like they want to make out.” I’m not talking about romantic comedies – I’m talking about, like, “No Country For Old Men.”For once I’ll get to know for sure that I’m right.

Viola Davis says that she very nearly hijacked a scene in “Ender’s Game” to plant a kiss on her costar Harrison Ford. She told Ellen that she had a huge crush on the once (and future?) Han Solo. “And so I called [The Help] costar Octavia Spencer,” she said, and hatched a plot for her character to surprise his with a kiss.

“And I’m gonna make a bold choice. In the middle of our scene I’m just going to plant a big one on him.”

Davis said that she imagined that the friction between their characters was due to a romantic history. “They have that banter, you know, back and forth, back and forth, and I think it’s because they have a past. So I’m just gonna plant one on him.”

When it came to the moment of truth, however, Viola chickened out and just stared blankly at him. Maybe it finally hit her that she was acting with 2013 Harrison Ford, not Indiana Jones Harrison Ford.
