Weekend TV Watch List: Sunday, Sept. 8

Metro’s weekend TV breakdown.

‘Boardwalk Empire’
DRAMA. Truth be told, we were a little miffed when they offed Jimmy at the end of the second season — so much so that it almost put us off the show. Almost. Luckily, “Boardwalk” upped the ante with enough drama, violence and intrigue in the third season to keep us coming back. Let’s hope they open the fourth season tonight with a bang.
Season Premiere, Sunday, 9 p.m., HBO

‘Modern Family: E! Entertainment Special’
COMEDY. Is “Modern Family” one of the most well-done comedies on TV right now? Maybe. Now that “30 Rock” and “The Office” (which jumped the shark long ago anyway) are donezo, its only competition is “Parks and Rec,” maybe. The fifth season doesn’t premiere for another few weeks, but you can brush up on past hilarity with this special.
Sunday, 9 p.m, E!

‘Dexter’
DRAMA. Oh man, we’re getting so close to the end of this show, and it’s killing us (ha!) In this episode, someone Dexter loves is murdered before his eyes. That’s a short list, so we have some ideas.
Sunday, 9 p.m., SHOE
