What fans outside the Barclays Center had to say about the VMAs

For the first time ever, Brooklyn got to house the epic MTV Video Music Awards. The area around the new Barclay Centers, where the award show went down, was buzzing pre-show, the streets filled with anticipating fans hoping to get a glance of their idols. Metro was there with them, and we are happy to note that most of them got their VMA-wishes fulfilled.

“I’m hoping for the N’sync reunion. The rumor is that that’s gonna happen. I was a fan a very long time ago. I’m in my thirties now so I guess I’m the ideal age to have been a ‘NSYNC fan,” Steven Peterson, 32, told. He must be thrilled!

Alexandria Montalvo, 14, went to get a peak of the red carpet for one, and only one, reason. One Direction. “My song of the summer has been ‘Best Song Ever’ by One Direction and they are the performance I’m looking forward to see. I’m a really big fan,” she said with flickering eyes. With her dedication she almost deserved the Moonman as much as One Direction themselves.

And there was no doubt who Londyn Douglas, 26, would let Kanye West interrupt, if he was to repeat his VMA tirade from years’ past: “Miley Cyrus. I’m kinda over her. She’ll probably be twerking and I just want him to interrupt that. Just stop twerking, please. Everybody is doing that now because of her and it needs to be over.” Well thanks to Miley’s steamy performance, twerking might have to be deleted from the dance floor forever.

Other fans offered their opinion on the annual awards show: Annique Bien-Aime, 9, said she really looked forward Selena Gomez’ performance because she “like her voice and sings nicely.” William Maldonado, 19, was all about Kanye because “who doesn’t want to see Kanye West?” And Mary Brady, 53, proves you’re never too old to want your MTV. “I’m most excited to see Lady Gaga. She gives so much back. She’s for example against bullying.” With Gaga’s protection of One Direction during the show, we guess she has a point.
