The Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival

Now in its 24th year, this festival is the oldest, largest and most traditional dragon boat festival in the United States. Over 120 dragon boat teams compete for cash, prizes and trophies while attendees enjoy traditional Chinese food and performances. Entertainment includes the Shaolin Temple Warrior Monks demonstrating kung fu, the Drum Spirit of China and traditional music.

Leave the kids at home for this one – cult director Takashi Miike brings this samurai film set in the 19th century during the end of Japan’s feudal era to the big screen. Miike is known for his use of violence, but also his ability to balance it with fine storytelling. Surely the samurai swordfighting will be brutal but amazingly choreographed.
