What to see at CMJ 2010

Tamaryn
Tonight, 10 p.m.
Knitting Factory Brooklyn

www.ny.knittingfactory.com
Friday, 10 p.m.
Coco 66, Brooklyn
www.coco66.com
The re-emergence of shoe-gaze shows no sign of fading, especially when new bands can do it as well as this boy-girl San Fran duo.

Small Black
Tonight 12:30 a.m.
Piano’s

www.pianosnyc.com
Small Black was one of the most-buzzed-about unsigned acts at last year’s CMJ. This year we’re proud of the OMD-loving dream-poppers, who can now boast about signing to indie label Jagjaguwar and the upcoming release of their first full album, “New Chain,” due out next week.

Bodega Girls
Friday, 5 p.m.
Arlene’s Grocery

www.arlenesgrocery.net
After seeing many spastic sets by this Boston dance party band, it’s surprising that they haven’t outgrown the CMJ circuit yet. Not like we’re complaining, because when the small crowd is one sweaty mass is the best way to experience them.

Parlour
Friday, 10 p.m.
Rock Shop

www.therockshopny.com
Sometimes Parlour spells their name as it might appear engraved in stone in Greece — as Parlovr — which is fitting, as their songs are big, pretty and monumental. But unlike any ancient relics, the band’s catchy tunes aren’t weathered at all.

Ty Segall
Saturday, 9 p.m.
Knitting Factory Brooklyn

www.ny.knittingfactory.com
Ty Segall plays the sort of fuzzy dropout boogie that when you’re first listening to it, you might think is sloppy and uninspired. But a few hours later, you’ll find the waves of his garage-y ’60s sound crashing against the inside of your head. The live show is also nuts.

The Golden Filter
Saturday, 7:30 p.m.
Webster Hall with UNKLE

www.websterhall.com
Though this New York-based electronic act has been on the scene for about two years, they’re just starting to gain momentum for their impossible-not-to-tap-your-feet-to beats with ethereal vocals from Aussie lead singer Penelope Trappes.
