This Memorial Day weekend, let someone else fire up the grill

Whether you’re lacking in outdoor space and grill supplies, or you’re just not in the mood to a host a party and pick beer cans out of the yard the next morning, Philly has you covered this Memorial Day. Get out of the house and over to these shindigs instead of hiding out in your living room because you RSVP’ed “no” to your weirdo neighbors’ barbecue.

Friday Nite Backyard Barbecue at Trestle Inn
We know that there are plenty of cookouts and block parties to choose from this weekend, so let us help make your decision easier: this barbecue includes go-go dancer Miss Scarlett Fever. Oh yeah, and there’s a free whiskey sour in it for you (between 5-7 p.m.). This is the debut of what will be a weekly party that features a rotating lineup of dancers and food trucks. For the kickoff it’s Yumtown. That’s the food truck — we already mentioned the dancer.
Friday
5-9 p.m.
339 N. 11th St.

Mayfair Block Party at Bainbridge Street Barrel House
Barrel House, that casual spot with the elevated American cuisine on Bainbridge, is hosting their first Mayfair block party. For them it’s a way of showing appreciation to the neighborhood that has embraced them in the few months that they’ve been open. For you it’s an opportunity to down some craft suds and $5 fare. Practice your throw, because there will be a dunk tank with proceeds going to Morris Animal Rescue.
Sunday
11 a.m.–8 p.m.
625 S. 6th St.

Roller Derby BBQ
Meet the baddies of Penn Jersey Roller Derby as they host one mean barbecue. First, though, is the free three-hour derby workshop with coach Skip Schoen. You don’t have to be evil on wheels to show up and hang: The event is open to the public.
Sunday
Workshop noon-3 p.m., barbecue to follow
1801 W. Indiana Ave.

Chaddsford Winery
If you’re looking for something more mature and less noisy, but still outdoors, get out of Philadelphia. Well, for the weekend at least. Take a trip to Chaddsford, about 40 minutes from Center City, for the winery’s Memorial Day weekend celebration, complete with live music, catered treats and frozen Sangria slushies. Bring a blanket for a classy Memorial Day picnic.
Friday-Monday
Noon-6 p.m.
632 Baltimore Pike, Chadds Ford

Cookout

Can’t decide between a burger or dog? Have both. PYT in the Piazza is serving up a Wet Hot American Picnic Burger this weekend. It’s a beef patty stuffed with a hot dog and American cheese, then piled high with Russian dressing, ketchup, mustard, onion, sweet pickle relish and potato chips. For the full backyard barbecue experience, dig into the sides: deviled egg potato salad and a slice of watermelon.
