Why Jon Hamm isn’t playing a superhero anytime soon

With the glut of comic book movies coming out of the Marvel and DC universes — with extensive releases already slated through 2020 — it’s kind of surprising that lantern-jawed, deep-voiced “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm hasn’t donned some tights by now. Well, it turns out it has not been for lack of trying on the studios’ parts. Hamm tells the Radio Times that he’s “been in contention for quite a few” superhero films over the last few years but has passed on them all.

“The deals that they make [actors] do are so Draconian,” Hamm explains. “And of course you are signed on for not only the movie that you are signed on for … but at least two more that you haven’t read and you have no idea what they are going to be and all the crossover ones you are going to have to do.” OK, fine. But now at least we can have fun speculating which roles he turned down. And no fair saying “all of them.” Let’s get creative here.
