Zayn Malik speaks out about leaving ‘One Direction’

When the word got out that 22 –year-old singer was leaving the group “One Direction,” just about every fan of the boy band was shocked to discover the news and couldn’t understand why.

During an exclusive interview with The Sun, Malik opened up and shared his reasons for leaving. During the Thursday interview, he simply told the newspaper, “I can’t do this anymore.”

Since his abrupt announcement that shocked fans across the world, he describes the past few days as “crazy and wild and a bit mad,” but continues by adding he’s “never felt more control in my life . . .And I feel like I’m doing what’s right, and right by myself and right by the boys, so I feel good.”

When asked why he quit, Malik responded:

I did try to do something that I wasn’t happy doing for a while, for the sake of maybe other people’s happiness–and that was mainly the fans. And I only ever tried to do it for the fans, and it was only ever for them. And, basically, I’m only upset I feel like I may have let them down in some sort of way. That’s the main thing that I don’t want to happen,” he said. “It’s not that I’ve turned my back on them or anything, it’s just that I just can’t do that anymore because it’s not real to me.”

Malik also denies any rumors about him not getting along with his fellow band members Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson.
