Escape the Fate seek to fill void with new album

When Escape the Fate won a contest to open for My Chemical Romance, it seemed like they were offered an opportunity most bands only dream of.

But they didn’t rise to fame with Justin Bieber-like ease.

Shortly after the release of their debut album their lead singer was arrested, leaving the future of the band in question. But they carried on against the odds, releasing their sophomore album with a new vocalist, Craig Mabbitt.

On the eve of the release of their latest CD, Escape the Fate have moved to a major label to release what could be their breakthrough album.

“You don’t even know what this album is about to do. There’s something missing right now in music,” says Mabbitt. “Even Lady Gaga, who is great at what she does, does she serve those kids in high school who are pissed off? Does Nickelback? They don’t fill that void.”

When asked about their slot on their upcoming Edmonton show, he cheekily asks, “Are we opening for them or are they closing for us?” But his laid-back demeanor counters any claims the guys are suffering from inflated rock-star egos.
