Eskies lineman hit with assault charge

An Edmonton Eskimo is among three men facing aggravated assault charges following an incident in Spruce Grove Friday.

Lineman Adam Braidwood, 26, has been charged with forcible confinement and aggravated assault.

Police were called to a southeast area of Spruce Grove when a witness saw a male being forced into the trunk of a car by multiple people.

RCMP located the suspect vehicle on Range Road 272, north of Township Road 520.

Four males were found on scene, two inside the vehicle and two outside.

One of the males standing outside the vehicle was shirtless and appeared to have significant injuries to his arms and legs.

The injured 20-year-old Spruce Grove man was transported to an Edmonton hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The three remaining males were arrested and charged.

Eskimos general manager Eric Tillman released a statement upon hearing of Braidwood’s charges.

“Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP notified the club of the charges against Adam Braidwood.

As the matter is now before the courts, the club will not offer further comment until the legal process has concluded,” said Tillman.
