Argentina is typically one of the top countries in terms of international soccer but so far that hasn’t translated into too many of their standout players making their way to compete in the United States and MLS.

No, Lionel Messi-the current best player in the world-isn’t coming here, at least not yet. Instead, Argentine midfielder Esteban Cambiasso has been linked to MLS after it was announced that he wouldn’t be returning to Leicester City (EPL) this season.

The 34-year-old free agent has been rumored to be looking at West Ham (EPL) and Anderlecht (Holland) along with two unnamed MLS teams according to Argentina’s MundoD.

The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan star helped Leicester City avoid relegation last season but you also cannot rule out a return to Argentina to play through the twilight of his career.

Leicester City is in a state of flux after they fired manager Nigel Pearson and replaced him with Claudio Ranieri. It’s a safe bet that this uncertainty led to Cambiasso choosing not to renew his contract there.

This being 2015, he explained his decision (where else?) but on his Facebook page: “I have taken this decision only 24 hours after receiving the proposal from Leicester because I want to give the club as much time as possible to find an alternative.” For an MLS team looking for a quality veteran midfielder, it seems like they could do a lot worse than Cambiasso.
