Sad news broke Thursday that former child star, Sawyer Sweeten, who played one half of a set of twins on the hit series “Everybody Loves Raymond, committed suicide. He was nineteen-years-old.
Sawyer’s family released a statement asking for privacy while their grieve:
“We are devastated to report that our beloved brother, son, and friend, Sawyer Sweeten, took his own life. He was weeks away from his 20th birthday. At this sensitive time, our family requests privacy and we beg of you to reach out to the ones you love.”
Sawyer was reportedly visiting family in Texas, when he shot himself on a front porch.
Sawyer and his twin grew up in front of America on “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which from from 1996 to 2005. The show followed the comedy antics of the Barone family and featured Ray Romano and Patricia Heaton in lead roles.
“I’m shocked, and terribly saddened, by the news about Sawyer,” Romano said in a statement. “He was a wonderful and sweet kid to be around. Just a great energy whenever he was there. My heart breaks for him, his family, and his friends during this very difficult time.”
Heaton shared her words on Twitter, “Sawyer Sweeten was a funny and exceptionally bright young man. He is gone from us far too soon. The entire cast of Everybody Loves Raymond is in shock.”
