Sean Spicer is out and there’s a new game in town: Anthony Scaramucci.
Scaramucci will be taking over as the communications director for the Trump administration. The name might sound new to you, but the 52-year-old had been standing in as a surrogate for Trump for a while on cable news shows and he’s been vying for a position in the Trump administration since before Trump even took office.
People had been predicting an end to Sean Spicer’s tenure as press secretary for months, but it wasn’t until Friday that President Donald Trump made his intentions for the communications office clear.
Spicer’s deputy, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, will now serve as press secretary and Scaramucci will take on a more supervisory role.
Here’s a look a Trump’s new go-to:
Anthony Scaramucci early life
Scaramucci is a financier who got his start at Goldman Sachs after graduating Harvard Law School. He spent more than a decade on Wall Street and eventually started his own hedge fund, SkyBridge Capital, in 2005. He earned early fame writing books about his experiences.
Anthony Scaramucci, financier
Anthony Scaramucci rose through the financial ranks of New York to eventually start his own hedge fund. The fund had been estimated to be worth as much as $11.8 billion. In January, Scaramucci divested from his company in hopes of being offered a job within the Trump administration. The job never materialized.
Anthony Scaramucci political experience
Scaramucci has had no formal experience in managing communications, but even though he wasn’t initially in the Trump camp, he eventually proved his loyalty and had served as a stand-in for Trump.
Anthony Scaramucci in politics
Scaramucci hasn’t had traditional experience as a politician, and as a private citizen he has supported everyone from Donald Trump to Barack Obama to Hillary Clinton. Generally, Scaramucci has been a political supporter but he didn’t always get behind Donald Trump. Initially, Scaramucci supported Republican candidate Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. He later supported Jeb Bush before throwing his support behind Donald Trump.
