PlayStation Classic: Everything you need to know
Sony

Sony announced it is releasing a PlayStation Classic video game system and if you’re a retro gamer and crave most things from the 1990s, you’ll be pleased with this throwback.

The PlayStation Classic is a miniature version of the original Sony PlayStation will come pre-loaded with several classic PlayStation titles you might remember from the 1990s.

Nintendo released its Classic NES gaming system in 2016, which featured 30 titles. It later released the Super NES Classic with 20 classic games. Sega cashed in on 1990s nostalgia by releasing the Sega Genesis Classics edition in May and has recently announced plans to release a classic edition of Sega Mega Drive.

Sony is following the retro video game trend with the Sony PlayStation Classic.

Here’s everything you need to know about the PlayStation Classic including features, included titles, release date, price and how to preorder.

PlayStation Classic features

Similar Nintendo and Sega’s mini gaming consoles, the Sony PlayStation classic will connect to a TV via HDMI. The console is almost half (45%) the size of the original PlayStation. The console ships with two replica controllers and will feature a reset button that allows you to suspend or freeze your progress in games so you can pick up from where you left off. To add to the classic PlayStation experience, the console has an Open button that will allow you to switch games. According to Sony, pressing the button will change the “Virtual Disc.”

If you’re planning to buy this retro gaming console you should know that it does not come with its own USB AC adapter. According to Sony, you can use an “AC adaptor that supports 5 V, 1.0 Amp USB (Type A) output.”  Although this is a common plug many people use to charge portable battery packs or power small hard drives, it could potentially be annoying if you don’t have one laying around the house. Sony should include a power plug with the unit if they want people to be able to play the gaming system out right out of the box.
