Ex-lover charged in stabbing death

Aaron Richards appeared briefly in a Gatineau courtroom yesterday afternoon to face a charge of involuntary manslaughter.

The 21-year-old pleaded not guilty for his alleged role in the fatal stabbing of Michael Paul, 22, in Gatineau Friday evening.

Gatineau police had initially reported that a male individual attempted to invade a home at 17 Rue Ste.-Helene with a male resident stabbing the intruder with a knife.

But after questioning four other people that had been with the victim, police determined that it was not a home invasion.

Paul had been trying to help a female friend reclaim some of her things from an ex-boyfriend who lived in the upper apartment of the building.

After a brief altercation, it is alleged that one of the men became aggressive and stabbed Paul in the chest. Paul died en route to an Ottawa Hospital.

“An autopsy was performed yesterday at the Ottawa Hospital since the death occurred on the Ontario side,” said Gatineau Police spokesperson Jocelyn Raby.
