Ex-workers reveal lies behind McDonald’s fries and you’re not going to like it

McDonald’s fries are under fire after a rumor surfaced that the fast-food giant teaches employees to under fill French fry containers.

In a discussion on the /r/askreddit sub thread titled “What did your job want you to hide from customers?” at least two former McDonald’s employees weighed in, exposing the truth behind boxes of skimpy fries.

“I worked at McDonald’s and they taught me how to pinch the fry carton just right while putting the fries into them so that it looked full, but actually wasn’t,” redditor ExperiMENTALbunny said.

The fast-food giant is denying the allegation.

“We believe these claims to be fictional, there are no ‘secret tricks’ and we have strict operational procedures in place to ensure that fry portions are not under-filled,” a spokesperson told The Independent.

The claim was backed up by a few other ex-McDonald’s workers, but McDonald’s said it would be unable to investigate the “unverified” claims.

“I f–king hated that practice and basically refused to do it. Never got fired, but managed to have a few customers ask me when my shifts were the next week so they could have me filling their fries,” psychoopiates said.

The policy basically had the opposite effect on redditor thedreamdweller during their tenure as a McDonald employee.

“I would overfill fry boxes as much as possible, fill drinks properly to the top instead of just what the machine automatically dispenses, and I’d always give extra flurry toppings to nice customers and little kids etc. basically I provided great customer service but it made me a shit employee in my managers opinion,” they wrote.

But if the many hundreds of customers McDonald’s sees on the daily noticed employees going a little skimp on the fries, almost no one said anything. Redditor ExperiMENTALbunny said only one customer ever savvied up to the practice.

“He shook the fries out into his bag and poured them back into the fry carton himself and it only filled up half way, so I had to give him more fries. I was impressed and embarrassed. It’s been 7 (sic) years and I can still see his face,” ExperiMENTALbunny said.
