Falling into Maine

The beauty of Maine is always worth viewing — but with fall’s apple orchards and colorful landscapes, October might just be the best time of year to see it.

“Maine is one of the most wonderful places to see in the autumn weather,” says Richard Carroll, the director of sales and marketing of the eco-luxury resort Inn by the Sea, located in the charming coastal town of Cape Elizabeth. “You can come and see the colors changing, enjoy our spa and check out the dining scene of downtown Portland, which was named America’s Foodiest Small Town by Bon Appetit. The dining scene is absolutely fantastic.”

Carroll hopes to tempt this year’s batch of leaf-peppers to the Inn with something unique — a hot air balloon ride to see the foliage and the Atlantic Ocean. The ride is being offered with the Fall Foliage Package — which includes two nights, a full breakfast for two in the ocean-view Sea Glass restaurant and a seasonal apple gift with hot apple cider — through Oct. 17.

Carroll says that the perfect weekend to come is Portland’s Harvest on the Harbor (Oct. 21-23), which includes three days of food, wine and dining.

For this, Maine’s premier food and wine experience, the Inn is promoting its Harvest on the Harbor package (Oct. 15-31) which gets you two nights at the hotel, a locally brewed pumpkin beer and a four-course chef’s pumpkin menu for two.

“It’s going to be a lot of pumpkin,” laughs Carroll.
