Families have their day on Stampede grounds

It was a family affair at the Calgary Stampede yesterday, and they were out in droves soaking up the fun at the park.

Chandell Dewitt and her three children — who are four, 22 months and four months — camped out at the Coca-Cola Stage to catch the one-day performances by the Doodlebops alongside hundreds of other families for Petro-Canada Family Day.

“It will be the youngest one’s first time at the Stampede, but our two older ones were here last year. They really like it and we came to watch the performance,” Dewitt said. “But I also came for the rodeo.”

Other families enjoyed the Midway games, rides and the food together, including the Nicholson family.

“We just come every year on Family Day, and we come early and get in free so we have more money to spend on other things for the kids,” dad Ben said while buying cotton candy for his two youngest kids.

For those who missed out on Family Day, there are more opportunities for families on Wednesday, which is BMO Kids Day at the Calgary Stampede.

Kid-friendly performances
If your family missed the Doodlebops show, there will be more kid-friendly acts on the Coca-Cola stage on July 8 with Disney’s High School Musical: Summer Celebration, and on July 9 and 10 with Playdate with Max and Ruby.
