The waiver wire will be extremely active this week with a handful of teams scrapping the bottom of the barrel to find a starting running back. Here’s a look at some key injuries and their impact on Week 6 fantasy:

Eddie Lacy, Packers

The Packers running back injured his ankle in his team’s latest, a win against the Giants, and things aren’t looking good in the aftermath.

“It is frustrating,” Lacy told the media after finishing with 11 carries for 81 yards, “but it happens. Injuries are a part of the game. It’s still early, but it’s definitely frustrating. Especially when you’re doing good, and you want to keep going but you can’t.”

He was seen unable to walk without help after the game. If he’s ruled out next week, James Starks will get a good number of reps and is worth a start in most leagues.

Charles Sims, Buccaneers

More bad news came yesterday for Tampa, already missing the services of injured Doug Martin, when they announced backup Sims was heading to the IR. In his stead,Jacquizz Rodgers had 30 carries and five catches in his team’s Monday Night win.

Moving forward, he’s probably a sure start in most leagues as they rely on him and two undrafted rookies:Peyton Barber and Russell Hansbrough.

Cam Newton, Panthers

Newton was out of Monday’s loss to the Bucs as the QB remains in the NFL’s concussion protocal, but he does appear to be on the mend — as he was sighted riding a scooter earlier Tuesday without a helmet.

“I’m not going to worry about that,” Panthers head coach RonRivera said Tuesday. “The bottom line is he’s an adult. We’ll go from there.”

There’s a chance he goes next week, but also that Derek Anderson starts again. This will be one to monitor.
