Fare evasion on MBTA leads to jail for man with warrants

A Boston man who allegedly fare evaded at an MBTA station ended up going to jail when police discovered he was wanted for assault and battery.

Transit Police said officers were conducting “point of entry” policing at Park Street station Wednesday morning when they saw 21-year-old James McGillicuddy allegedly fare evade by following close behind a paying customer through the gates.

The officers were in the process of issuing McGillicuddy a citation when they learned there was a warrant for his arrest out of Boston Municipal Court for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and possession of burglarious tools, police said.

McGillicuddy was then arrested.
