“Cruel” and “tasteless” are not words often associated with editrix Anna Wintour’s Vogue — but they are now being thrown at one of her top New York underlings.

Her name? Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis. (Yes. Really.)

Her “crime”? She Instagrammed a photo of a homeless woman in Paris reading Vogue and wrote: “Paris is full of surprises …and @vogue magazine readers even in unexpected corners!”

Now it’s the 32-year-old heiress and German princess, who is American Vogue’s style editor-at-large, who is getting slapped.

The story was broken by online style website Fashionista over the weekend, which wrote: “The things she writes, both in Vogue and on social media, often straddle the line between entertaining/aspirational and disturbingly out of touch. On Saturday she crossed that line.”

Commenters called the Instagram “shameful,” “cruel” and “in poor taste.”

Some wondered whether she stopped to help the woman, or offered money or food.

She did get support from some corners.

<p dir=“Unfortunately, this is how some people live, the sad reality,” one commenter said.

A Paris shelter worker added on one web site:”I’m very glad that the reality of homelessness in the city is being highlighted.”

Von Thurn und Taxis (a/k/a “TNT”) initially fought back: “Why cruel? The person to me is as dignified as anyone else!”

Soon after, she deleted the Instagram shot, and on Sunday posted a serene shot of Paris’ famed Seine river.

I wanted to extend my sincerest apologies for the offense my post has caused. Yours truly Elisabeth

She didn’t apologize for the Instagram, mind you. She apologized for the “offense” it caused. A classic non-apology apology.

She wrote: “I wanted to extend my sincerest apologies for the offense my post has caused. Yours truly Elisabeth.”

Whatever.
