The father of a 12-year-old girl accidentally shot by a constable serving eviction papers is now facing charges in her death.

Donald Meyer, 58, of Penn Township, faces a number of charges that include criminal homicide and aggravated assault, the Associated Press reported.

Meyer’s daughter Ciara was shot and killed during a confrontation with Constable Clark Steele at her family’s home on Pfautz Apartments.

Steele reportedly testified that Mr. Meyer confronted him with a rifle when he arrived to serve the papers.

Police said Steele fired a shot that hit Mr. Meyer, but through his arm and mortally wounded his daughter, who was standing behind him.

Sherry Meyer, the defendant’s wife, testified that Meyer had told her he was “not going out as a man, but as a warrior.”

She added that she heard Ciara say “no, Daddy, no” before the gunshots rang out.
