FBI Boston hones in on government corruption

The Boston FBI announced Monday a new program it hopes will weed out fraud and corruption at all government levels in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and Rhode Island.

The “Stop Corruption Now” campaign includes a toll-free tip line ( 1-844-NOBRIBE ), an online tip site and billboards, the FBI said.

The agency said the initiative is needed because government corruption remains a top criminal priority for the FBI.

“Concerned citizens are the FBI’s biggest asset when it comes to exposing people who are abusing the public’s trust and misusing taxpayer money to line their own pockets,” said Special Agent in Charge Vincent B. Lisi. “This tip line is designed to be an easy way for those with knowledge of schemes to report those schemes.”

Online tips can be submitted at tips.fbi.gov.

Lisi said one area of growing concern is the expansion of casino gambling in the region, which he said might lead to an increase in public corruption and financial and organized crime.
