FBI, NYPD seek serial ‘Americas Bandit’ bank robbers

Authorities are searching for a man and woman who recently robbed two Manhattan banks, with officials alleging that the man was also involved in a string of bank robberies dating back to September 2015.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, a man and woman robbed the Chase Bank at 204 W. 4thSt. in the West Village after the woman passed a note to the teller demanding money and the man pointed a black firearm at the teller, authorities reported. The Chase employee complied, and the duo departed with cash and headed toward 7thAvenue.

The same suspects were also believed to have robbed the Northeast Community Bank at 242 W. 23rdSt. on July 5, police said.

The man, according to authorities, acted alone in previous robberies at a Bank of America branch at 670 Avenue of the Americas on June 27, a Citibank located at 395 Avenue of the Americas on Dec. 21 and in two robberies at the Chase Bank at 340 Avenue of the Americas on Sept. 23 and 25 of last year.

The “Americas Bandit” nickname stems from the fact that several of the robberies took place on Manhattan’s Avenue of the Americas, ABC7 reported.

Police said the male suspect, described as being in his mid-50s, approximately 180 to 190 pounds and 5 feet 7 inches, has displayed a gun in three of the robberies and is believed to be armed and dangerous, authorities added.

The FBI-NYPD Violent Crime Task Force is investigating the robberies, and any information regarding this case should be reported to the FBI New York office at 212-384-5000.
