Shayanna Jenkins, fiancee of former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez, pleaded not guilty to lying to a grand jury investigating her boyfriend’s alleged role in the killing of Odin Lloyd.

Assistant District Attorney Patrick Bomberg told the Bristol Superior Court that Jenkins lied about remembering conversations with Hernandez. When Hernandez told her to “get rid of” a large box that may have contained evidence the day after Lloyd was murdered, Jenkins did so but was unable to recall where she’d disposed of it.

“She told the grand jury she dumped it in a Dumpster, but she couldn’t tell anybody where it was,” Bomberg said.

Jenkins’ defense team claims there is no proof that she ever lied, besides the prosecution believing so, according to the Fall River Herald News.

“She received immunity on all these things that they’re accusing her of, and she answered all the questions,” Janice Bassil told the court.

Jenkins was released on personal recognizance after pleading not guilty at her Tuesday arraignment, and will be back in court on Nov. 6.

Both Jenkins and Hernandez maintain their innocence in the case.
