Finding their way out of LAByrinth

Fourteen plays, 22 days, zero dollars per ticket: New York’s own LAByrinth Theater Company doesn’t take any shortcuts with The Barn Series, a month of free theater by some of the most talented artists in the city.

A tradition 15 years in the making, the series showcases some of the 40 or so new plays developed during LAByrinth’s summer intensive up at Bard College. “Artistically, it’s sharing the things we’re most excited about with an audience,” artistic director Mimi O’Donnell says. “What it’s become is taking 10 to 15 of the best plays we read this summer, developing them further, bringing them to New York and having a New York audience hear them. I think New Yorker audiences love to have the insider [point of view], seeing it for the first time.”

Broadway-bound playwright and co-artistic director Stephen Adly Guirgis, Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman and co-artistic director Yul Vazquez will be making several appearances at The Barn Series as directors and actors.
