Fire kills three family members

Despite attempts to resuscitate them, three family members died yesterday morning when a fire tore through their North Delta home.
Joshua Stoen, 23, and his parents Kevin, 42, and Laura, 41, died at their home in the 9300 block of 117A Street.
“The loss of three lives and that of the same family is very heartbreaking,” said Delta Const. Sharlene Brooks.
The couple’s adult daughter, who did not live in the house, had been informed about her parents and brother’s death, Brooks said.
Emergency officials were called to the house at 6:40 a.m.
Police officers, who were the first on the scene, were unable to get inside the house because of the intense heat and flames.
Moments later, firefighters entered the house and found the three family members near the front door. Attempts were made to revive them, but all three died at the scene.
Later yesterday morning, yellow police tape blocked 93rd Avenue to traffic while a large Delta Police van partially blocked the brown house from view. A broken window could be seen.
A dozen marijuana plants were found in the house’s garage, but the plants are not considered a factor in the fire.
Fire investigators are looking for what started the fire, Brooks said, adding, “the investigation could ultimately reveal that this is purely accidental.”
Global TV reported that the family had lived in the house since 2002.
