First gay male couple who wed at West Point attacked in SoHo

Police continue to look for a man who yelled homophobic slurs and attacked a two men in aSoHo bodega on Sunday afternoon before fleeing on a bicycle.

Larry Lennox-Choate posted on Facebook after the attack that he and his husband, Daniel Lennox-Choate, were fine other than “one fat lip and a sore punching arm.”

“The guy who screamed anti-gay obscenities at us in a bodega before sucker-punching Danny? He left covered in his own blood with his tail between his legs after I handled the situation and tossed him in the street like the coward loser he is. The hate crimes division of the NYPD is on the case and we have full faith a positive outcome will follow. We refuse to be victims and are thankful we can defend ourselves, but are saddened by the fact that idiots like this guy might not pick two guys who went through Plebe Boxing next time,” Lennox-Choate wrote.

The couple were the first gay male couple to be married at West Point in 2013, where they both attended, the New York Times previously reported.

Police said the suspect went into SOHO Newsstand at 186 Prince St. around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday to buy beer. Inside, he yelled homophobic statements at the couple, which led to a verbal dispute that turned physical before fleeing on a gray bicycle.

Police described the suspect as in his 40s, 5-feet-8 inches, 130 pounds with curly hair, and last seen wearing a white shirt, blue shorts and carrying a black backpack. He fled the scene on a gray bicycle.
