Five-alarm fire tears through Queens homes

A five-alarm fire tore through several houses in Queens on Monday night, injuring 11 firefighters and displacing residents.

The blaze erupted inside the attic of a two-story row house on 68th Avenue in Middle Village about 8:30 p.m. and quickly spread to five neighboring homes, authorities said.

A total of 200 firefighters were called to the scene, and it took about two hours to get the fire under control, The New York Daily News reported.

Eleven firefighters were treated for minor injuries, the News reports.

The Red Cross was at the scene assisting displaced residents.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
