Five firms competing to create Lansdowne Park

The city has released the names of five firms invited to compete to create the design of Lansdowne Park’s open space.

Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates of Cambridge, Mass.; Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg of Vancouver; The SWA Group of Sausalito, Calif.; West 8 Urban Design & Landscape Architecture of Toronto and Williams, Asselin, Ackaoui & Associates Inc. of Montreal were selected from 21 submissions.

The firms will begin gathering information and ideas for the new open space. On Wednesday and Thursday, the firms will meet with the city, the National Capital Commission and the Parks Canada Agency in a design symposium.

Following the symposium, the firms will develop their proposed park designs, to be unveiled to the city in May.

A seven-member jury will then consider the submitted designs and public feedback.
