A flash flood warning for the New York City area was canceled, but the area could see another quarter-inch of rain before the skies clear late Tuesday night.

Tim Morrin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service, said pockets of rain and drizzle will continue to fall throughout Tuesday evening.

“The heavy rain is over for this event, we don’t see anything that will necessarily cause a flash flood or hazard.”

Clear, partly-sunnyskies but unseasonably cool weather is on the way for Wednesday and Thursday, with highs in the upper 60s.The average highs this time of year is 76 degrees.

Morrin said about 2.18 inches of rain have fallen on New York City over the past few days after about a 40-day dry spell.

More showers are expected over the next seven days starting on Friday and moving into the weekend.
