The Bistro at Art Central has a lot going for it: a central downtown location and a classic art deco look. Unfortunately, its bistro food falls flat.

The Bistro quiche ($12) with smoked chicken and gruyere cheese looked promising. While the crust had a nice flakiness to it, the quiche itself turned out bland and lukewarm. The side salad was strangely drizzled with mango dressing that didn’t quite make a perfect partner.

We fared better with the Bistro burger ($12) that came with a respectably moist Alberta beef patty. Bonus points for the tangy zucchini relish and crispy, skinny fries.

Maple crème brûlée ($6) was a decent sweet ending to the lunch.

It might have been the lateness of our meal, but many menu items were no longer available, which was disappointing. The reasonable prices are welcome in this part of downtown but it’s too bad the food is just average.
