Mega heel deals at ALDO

Several FF readers have written in about the sky-high heels seen in almost all the shoe shops this season — loving them, but fearing for their safety and poise. If you’re not super-confident in major stilts, then opt for three inches over four or five. More key, it’s often about the thickness of the heel — wedges are easiest to navigate — combined with decent ankle support (straps) that will make the difference between an assured walk and a wipe-out. Opting for chunky straps and buckles delivers safety as well as a trendy look.

Some of the most fashion-forward higher styles at the best prices are at Aldo (most in the $69 – $135 range). If you want to skip heels altogether, then definitely explore the popular Roman sandals or gladiator-style flats, which are comfortable, ankle-friendly and just as hip.

Old Navy hits the mark

Budget retailer Old Navy is enjoying a stellar fashion moment this season — every major trend is represented, made wearbale and offered up at eye-popping prices few shoppers can resist.

Sure the weather’s still a little wonky, but soon the days will be consistently warm and for now even the skimpiest pieces can be creatively layered. Best buys: deep v-neck sundresses in eggplant purple, chocolate brown or black jersey are great solo ($29), while silky and sultry St. Tropez dresses with delicate spaghetti straps and hankie hems deliver boho chic bliss (available in various retro prints at $34 and up). There’s also boldly colourful swimwear (some under $25), saucy maternity separates ($19 to $39) and recently reduced espadrille wedges rounding out the deals at just $24. www.oldnavy.com

Reitmans — perfect cardigans

Spring has officially landed at Reitmans and suddenly everything is crisp white, zingy green or various shades of plum with staple items in olive, black, truffle brown, etc. One of the top transitional pieces key to this season is the quarter length sleeve cardigan, just $30. Freshest-looking in a frothy pistachio shade. Plenty of pretty floral tops, peasant blouses, short-sleeved jackets and flirty skirts and cropped trousers are now priced at $30 or less.
