Darkness Rising is a 2,500-square-foot haunted house at a private home in Massapequa, run by Kevin and Frank Baird. This year, they’ve joined forces with Jim Kennedy, the person behind Nesconset’s “Terror on Alexander.” “Just make sure that you can deal with the scariness and strobe lights,” Kennedy says.

The Sag Harbor Whaling Museum celebrates Halloween by turning into a haunted house, with spooktacular tours presented nightly from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for $10 admission. On Saturday, a ghost walk through Sag Harbor will explore the local haunts, lit by lantern and the moon, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is $25 and reservations in advance are required.

Halls of Terror Productions once again unleashes Long Island Fear Fest, a bone-chilling “labyrinth of chaos” with room after room of dark passageways, dungeons, murmurs, moans and demons. Admission is $12, though advanced tickets are available for $20. Fear Fest isn’t targeted for children, and no lights or cameras are permitted. Participants won’t be touched by anyone in the haunted houses, and if you touch them, you will be removed without a refund.
