Former Blue Jays prospect becomes first player signed by Ottawa Fat Cats

A right-handed pitcher twice drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays has become the first Ottawa Fat Cats player to be signed by the Intercounty Baseball League club.

David Steffler, born in Peterborough, Ont., was twice drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays — in 1994, and again in 1997 after completing a junior collegiate season at Winthrop University in South Carolina.

“David Steffler is going to be our veteran arm who can beat anybody in this league,” said Fat Cats head coach Bill Mackenzie.

“He has great control and command of four quality pitches.” The Fat Cats are hosting an open tryout camp this Saturday at Ottawa Stadium.
