Former Dartmouth Subways star Michael Kirkpatrick has landed an NHL tryout with the Minnesota Wild.
The Saint John Sea Dogs forward, originally from North Sydney, will make his bid for a contract at an NHL prospects tournament in Traverse City, Mich., from Sept. 6 to 10.
Kirkpatrick, 19, has been passed over in back-to-back drafts but produced 34 goals and 30 assists for 64 points in 67 games in a breakthrough campaign with the Sea Dogs.
“Getting drafted is one way to get to the next level and tryouts are another way,” Kirkpatrick told the Saint John Telegraph-Journal. “I’m going to go hard and try to impress them.”
Kirkpatrick,was named most improved player and best penalty killer in Metro Halifax’s QMJHL East Division coaches poll.
