Fox series Fringe moving production to Vancouver

New York City’s loss is Vancouver’s gain as Fox’s big budget sci-fi series Fringe is moving production here.

The change is also a homecoming for the show’s lead actor, Joshua Jackson. The Vancouver-born hottie plays an FBI agent who solves unexplained phenomena.

Fringe is actually set in Boston, but the first season was filmed in New York after that city offered better tax incentives as part of a $658-million US fund, according to Jaunted.com.

The incentive became so popular — Ugly Betty moved production to New York from Los Angeles because of it — that the money ran out Feb. 1, five years sooner than expected.

With New York Gov. David Patterson saying the fund will not be replenished, other productions could soon follow Fringe to Vancouver.
