Frank Sinatra Jr., son of singer and actor Frank Sinatra and his first wife, died Wednesday of cardiac arrest, according to reports. He was 72.

The Sinatra family said in a statement that Sinatra Jr. died unexpectedly on March 16 while on tour in Daytona Beach, Florida, the Associated Press reported.

The statement added that the “family mourns the untimely passing of their son, brother, father and uncle,” according to the Associated Press.

Sinatra, who took up singing just like his father, was in Daytona Beach for a “Sinatra Sings Sinatra” event, where he was to perform a concert of his father’s songs, the New York Daily News reported. The singer canceled his performance and was taken to Halifax Medical Center.

According to the Daily News, Sinatra Jr. was the younger brother of actress Nancy Sinatra and older brother of Tina Sinatra, a television producer.

When he was 19 years old, Sinatra was kidnapped and held for ransom in California and was held until his father gave his kidnappers $240,00, the Daily News said.

The singer worked for his father as musical director and conductor, the Associated Press reported.
