Free concert to honour Canadian composers

Fifty Canadian performers and conductors who have played exceptional roles in shaping the Canadian music scene and raising the profile of Canadian music will be honoured during a free concert at the National Arts Centre Monday.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Music Centre, a concert, entitled Celebrating Canadian Composers, features the National Arts Centre Orchestra under the direction of maestro Jean-Philippe Tremblay and ensembles and soloists performing works by Canadian composers.

The program includes Old Photographs by Christos Hatzis, performed by the Gryphon Trio; North Country Suite by Harry Somers, performed by the full NAC Orchestra; Bringing the Tiger Down from the Mountain II by Alexina Louie, performed by NACO principal cellist Amanda Forsyth; The Labyrinth by Abigail Richardson, performed by the string orchestra; and Primus Tempus by Denis Gougeon, performed by the full orchestra.
