Gang Green fans’ sendoff in Times Sq.

Thousands rallied in Times Square last night as New York City’s Jets head into the AFC Championship game Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts.

For fans of New York City’s underdog team, it’s been a long time coming.

“I was three years old in 1968, so I’ve been suffering my whole life,” said Upper West Side resident Brad Shaw. He was referring to the last time the Jets won the Super Bowl, when they upset — coincidentally — the Colts in Super Bowl III in 1968. “Hopefully, they win on Sunday and the suffering is over,” Shaw said.

Sergio Minervini has held Jets season tickets since 1981, when they were a mere $200 per season. Now they’re in the thousands.

“It was hard. We’d lose, but we got kind of used to it,” said the 56-year-old Hasbrouck Heights, N.J., resident. “But we always thought eventually we’d have our glory days.”

“At this point, they’re already a winner. They beat the Bengals, they beat the Chargers,” said Robert Amitrano, 51, who’s headed to Indianapolis for the game. “Even if they lose on Sunday, they’re still winners.”
