Gangs suspected in targeted shooting in Burnaby, B.C., parkade

BURNABY. B.C. – RCMP say a shooting in a Burnaby, B.C., parking lot was targeted and likely gang related.

Cpl. Alexandra Mulvihill said one man is listed in serious condition after being hit several times in an attack just after 10 p.m. Tuesday night in the parking garage of a highrise.

Investigators have identified the man but not released his name.

“At this time, this incident appears to be a targeted hit and has all the earmarks of being gang related,” Mulvihill said in a statement.

Witnesses reported hearing as many as 12 shots before seeing two vehicles speeding out of the parkade.

RCMP confirmed they’re searching for a navy blue or black SUV and a van.

At least 20 people died in more than four dozen shootings across Metro Vancouver between mid-January and mid-April, but a lull followed the recent arrests of men police say are high-ranking members of rival gangs fighting a bloody turf war.

Mulvihill said investigators will spend Wednesday speaking with witnesses and piecing together the information they’ve compiled.
