GDGT: Gadgets for all, not just the big players

Average gadget geeks have been excluded from the famed Las Vegas International Consumer Electronics Show for years. Open only to industry insiders and journalists, the trade show leaves everyone else panting at the window.

Local techies finally got their hands on groundbreaking gadgets yesterday during the free GDGT Live road show at the Royale nightclub in Boston.

“Tech reporters and bloggers get to go to this stuff all the time,” said GDGT founder and Harvard alum Peter Rojas. “We thought why not take this stuff on the road. No one is doing consumer-friendly technology shows.”

The show, which hit five cities before Boston, features Logitech, Google and Olympus along with such local companies as SCVNGR, Isabella Products and Gazelle.

Rojas, who founded gadget blogs Engadget and Joystiq, started GDGT 14 months ago as an online consumer forum for early adopters and throwbacks.

“We’re the only people doing this,” he said.
