GE announced Thursday the company will be fully moved into its new Boston headquarters in the Seaport District on Necco Street by 2018.

The property, a 2.5-acre space near the Procter & Gamble campus, will eventually combine new construction with existing structures, including two historic buildings that will be renovated, GE said in a statement.

“South Boston is a major hub for innovation and development, and GE is excited to be a part of such a dynamic and creative ecosystem that is leading the future,” GE Vice President Ann Klee said in the statement.

Before the facility’s completion, GE employees will temporarily move to Farnsworth Street, starting this summer, the company said. To offset the cost of the move, GE said it will sell its Connecticut and New York City offices.

GE planned to bring about 800 employees to its Boston headquarters, adding to the nearly 5,000 employees it already has in Massachusetts, GE added.

“Going forward, GE plans to be an active part of the Boston community. We believe that Boston can capture future growth in important new innovation in the industrial Internet and advanced manufacturing,” Klee said.
